Each evening the queues begin, in anticipation of the 7pm opening. It is first come, first served, with no telephone reservation line. The charm of Bu Qtair lies in the in its location – modest porta cabin selling fried fresh fish on the beach, with the 7-star hotel Burj Al Arab view.Appearances can be deceptive. You have to wait in a queue and grab the fishes that are available (not of your choice). In the case of one of Dubai’s most popular restaurants this means no menu, paper plates, then and plastic tables and stools outside a hut, with the traffic roaring down Jumeirah Beach Road just a few meters away.
But none of this matters when you are eating at Bu Qtair, where the fried pomfret, chilli prawns and marinated hammour have drawn a devoted foodie following over a long period of time now.Bu Qtair has been owned by a family from Kerala since it opened on Umm Suqeim beach, moving to its current location with a picturesque backdrop of fishing dhows around ten years ago.
My favorite is the Shery fry which often comes in a big size though. The masala is mostly of Chili,Turmeric and of course the secret ingredient which makes it so tempting and aromatic if you even pass by.The fish is fried and fully done, love the outer later crispiness, the taste and best goes with the paratha they serve.
My most favorite is the marinated spicy prawns which comes in a steel plate with utter spiciness, crispiness, and heaven in ones mouth.Best goes with a soft drink and should be eaten before the big fish with the paratha.
Often it says the decorations, the lightnings, the arrangements, the dazzling decor fails if the food served is not to foodies expectation but this place with the least concerned about all the above factors is way up to its delicious taste and constant delivery of the same standard since the beginning. The busiest infact,at some point during weekdays we have to search for a parking, lucky enough if you get it have to wait for a long time to call out your name for a table.Only signature dishes are the fish that too if you are lucky enough u’ll get your choice and yet the most popular in UAE.
Have visited the place more then a dozen times now, always surprises me with the parking, the queue, the fishes marinated, the long time wait and of course all well that ends well everything just vanishes once the fish plate comes and i can only say Worth A Try.
