Monk as the name suggest is a Chinese restaurant where you can fill up your belly (like its mascot!!) with decent food and without denting your wallet too.A small but tastefully decorated place smallish seating areas but not much congested. The welcome is sincere by the staffs and they are quite helpful.In a place like Karama, with every other restaurant serving Indian-Chinese , it’s hard to stand out, but Monk manages to do that. The food here reminds me of a now non-existent Oasis Chinese restaurant, the food is simple, tasty , good portions , low rates and great service oh and crammed interiors with well lit up done with red and black color theme,Nice comfy leather seats & a very good baby seat for the kid.They have items from Korea, Mongolia, good old Calcutta and many from Pataya and general Thai dishes. There are lots of Vegetarian portions available.
I am very excited and nervous to write about this place as the only thing we have it in here was Veg dishes and i must say all the veggies out there good news you got a place to eat it out and that too everyone’s favorite Chinese.
For the soup we had Hot n Sour sweep with sweet corn,white in its color but very heavy texture and the corn fillings was way too thick and rich.The hot and sour elements added a lot of character to the soup.As the portion was a bit heavy one could easily have 1/2 portion done out of it.
For the starters it was Paneer Chilly Dry which was i think blessing in disguise as the paneer pieces was so crispy from outside and soft from inside.The chilly and the peppers added a lot of spiciness to the dish and the perfect combination of the spices and chilli flakes was an amazing start of for a perfect meal.Every bite of it was hot and spicy and the peppers just added the delicious heavenly taste to it.
Noodles are always what i prefer in a Chinese Asian outlet so this time it ahd to be something different to go with my Veggi curry so we ordered the Koi Theao which is flat malaysian noodles tossed with spinach soya and sprouts.The definition itself gives a lot of character to the dish and the vibrant color of green was just ravishing when it came up to the tables.My eyes were popped up by its color and look.The noodle was a terrific combination with all the spices and herbs mixed with and the spinach flavor shout out load about the dish.A must try out all Veggie lovers.
The Veg Manchurian which we ordered with the noodles was way up to my expectation.Perfect veggie balls in rich and thick soy sauce gravy,the chinese cuisine that it could be.The veggie balls were so juicy and full of all my veggies and the tenderness and softness added to the Chef’s credibility.This dish was perfect with my flat Malaysian noodles and the colors of green and red made our table very sophisticated in itself.
The perfect end of a Veggie dinner around the hustle and bustle of Karama street.A small place but a must visit due to their immense hospitality,the staffs cheerfulness,the huge parking outside,the shout out loud of Chinese.Their are 4 outlets in UAE – Emirates Hills,Al Karama,Silicon Oasis and Al Safa where you can crave your taste buds in.
