Mandi is a traditional Yemeni dish from Yemen.Mandi is usually made from rice, meat (lamb or chicken), and a mixture of spices. The meat used is usually a young and small sized lamb to enhance the taste further. The main thing which differentiates mandi is that the meat is cooked in the tandoor which is a special kind of oven. The tandoor is usually a hole dug in the ground and covered inside by clay. To cook mandi, dry wood is placed in the tandoor and burned to generate a lot of heat turning into charcoal. The meat is then suspended inside the tandoor without touching the charcoal. After that, the whole tandoor is closed without letting any of the smoke out. Raisins, pine nuts, or peanuts can be added to the rice as per one’s taste.Traditionally mandi was cooked in a hole dug in the desert. It is also eaten with hands on floor seatings.
BAIT AL MANDI One of the oldest and the best places around,Old school just the way a mandi place needs to be.Its indeed perfect place for arabian foodies or people seeking exotic arabian taste mastery. Its quiet interesting and happy to write about this place as i have visited more than 5 times and every time this place surprises me with its deiciously wide varieties of Mandis,Madhbis,Madfoon both in Chicken and Lamb.
The place serves Mandi’s,Madfoon’s and Madhbi’s in Chicken,Mutton and Fish.As i have tasted Chicken Mandi,Madhbi,Madhfoon and Lamb Madfoons so ill definetely make you people out there fall in love with it.
The Chicken Mandi – As mentioned earlier cooked with Rice and Chicken in a special Tandoor with charcoal but without giving that charcoal flavour or taste as it is baked is what is the speciality all about. And this palce serves the best in Town with compimentary Soup,Yoghurt,Salad and the star of the show as we may call is the Tomato hot chutney just perfect for the delicious mandis and gives that added moisture to it.The best part of Mandi is the rice which is cooked very delicately with a little spices on it and with the stocks.Deep fried golden onions sprinkled just makes the dish more alive. The chicken is very juicy and red golden from the front but when you eat with teh rice it just gives you the ebst aroma and taste.
The Chicken Madhbi – The difference between Mandi and Madhbi as I was told was that the chicken in Madhbi is grilled and not baked like its done for Mandi. So here comes that charcoal flavoured taste and i just simply love this. This is my Favorite in this place as charcoal flavours just attarcts me a more than the bake once. With the perfect combination of the flavoured rice and with the tomato chutney is too delicious to resist.
The Chicken Madhfoon – The chicken madfoon was the first time for me as i usually stick to the madhbi or chicken or meat mandi and as soon as i dug into the madfoon i was like man why did i not order this before. The chicken comes cooked in a leaf. If i would have to guess I would say a banana leaf. When the chicken is cooked like this the juices tend to stay in and my mouth is watering as I am writing this it just seems to melt the bones perfectly. With the accompanying rice and soup and the fresh made tomato sauce is succelent and tender. This was an amazing dish on so many levels and my new favorite now.O my God this place is giving me a New Favorite every time I visit it.
Now Meat lovers you will surely love this part
Lamb Madfoons – The madfoon turned out to be a giant portion of deliciously savoury rice topped with the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth bit of lamb .The meat it served on the bone and is accompanied by yoghurt and a bowl of watery, but hot, tomato chilli sauce. This is the kind of food you want to eat Arabic style, with your hands, and after we’d started digging in we found it very difficult to stop eating. The Lamb is so soft it slips of the bone into ur tougue and slips down the tiungue into ur throat.
Sorry for not taking much pics as I was busy digging it into my Belly.
This place serves also the yummy Kunafas which is a Levantine cheese pastry soaked in sweet sugar-based syrup. The Kunafas are very cheesy which melts in your mouth with vermicelli sweet that you would be tempted to order one more.
The interiors are very basic seating but they have private sitting arrangements for families which is called Majlis so that we all can enjoy our food with the option of sitting down.Cosed cabinets for 1 family at a time with Red Cushions to sit takes us back to the arabic tradition.
The location is very good with a huge parking in front of it as I am always lucky to get one.The service is quiet fast and prompt, even if you are too hungry you can go there and the food will be in yur belly within a few minutes. The portion served can be gulped by 2 to 3 people,so people beware if you alone than there will be a lot to take away.it has got 7 outlets in Dubai so people just dig into it soon.People living in Muraqqabat,Barsha 1,International City,Satwa,Rashidiya,Hor Al Anz and Muhaisnah dont change your loaclity as the Best Mandi in town is just near to you.
